Biography

Shelby grew up in Lexington, Kentucky. She attended Tates Creek High School in Fayette County. Her mother, Crystal, is a family law attorney in Lexington. In high school, Shelby spent her time working at a local smoothie shop and playing on her high school golf team. She was team MVP of the girls’ golf team her senior year.

After high school, Shelby went to the University of Kentucky to continue her academic career. She majored in political science and minored in biology and French. She studied abroad on Semester at Sea, where she traveled to eleven different countries. She was also a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and spent her free time volunteering with the Lexington Humane Society.

After graduating from undergrad, Shelby went on to attend the University of Kentucky College of Law, where she was a member of the Women’s Law Caucus. After law school, Shelby moved to Omaha, Nebraska, to work for a national title insurance company. After a few years, Shelby decided to move home and began working for a large Kentucky firm, doing real estate transactions. Then she decided to switch practice areas and started working for a national personal injury firm in their Lexington office. She has represented individuals across the state in a variety of matters, conducting numerous depositions, oral arguments, and mediations. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with friends, family, and her two rescue dogs and cat. Shelby is very excited to join the team at Hicks & Funfsinn, PLLC!
