Fatal motor vehicle accidents often involve failure to yield

Two people's lives were recently cut short in a tragic left-turn crash involving two automobiles in Kentucky. In addition, five other people suffered injuries in the wreck. These types of motor vehicle accidents can easily occur as a result of a driver's carelessness, which is grounds for litigation.

The recent Kentucky crash occurred on a Saturday. According to police, a minivan was trying to make a left turn across a street to enter a driveway. However, during the turn attempt, the van crashed into an oncoming sport utility vehicle.

Two passengers who were in the van were pronounced dead at the crash scene. Meanwhile, the driver of the van suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital. The driver of the sport utility vehicle was also transported to a medical center with injuries, as were three others. Authorities continued to investigate the crash.

The driver of the van may face civil claims for the deaths and injuries resulting from the crash, as the law requires drivers who are making left turns to yield to oncoming traffic first. The surviving loved ones of the two passengers who died in the wreck may pursue wrongful death claims against the van driver, seeking the reimbursement of damages. Likewise, the four other injured parties may opt to file personal injury claims against the driver of the van.

Liability must be established, based upon a showing of negligence, before any claims for damages will be decided. In a case that is handled successfully, a plaintiff may receive a monetary award that might help with covering funeral costs or hospital bills associated with these types of motor vehicle accidents. Financial damages may also help to address the pain and suffering caused by such accidents in Kentucky.
