Wrong-way motor vehicle accidents may claim lives

Three people recently lost their lives in a tragic wrong-way car accident along Interstate 75 in Kentucky. Sometimes, these types of motor vehicle accidents happen due to a person's carelessness, which is grounds for civil litigation. For instance, in this accident situation, a woman was arrested for causing the three deaths, and therefore, she may face claims in civil court in addition to facing charges in criminal court.

The recent accident happened when police were chasing the woman, 42, who then decided to go the wrong way along the interstate. The woman was apparently going more than 90 miles per hour. She allegedly ended up striking two cars on the roadway.

The woman's sister passed away in the crash. In addition, sisters who were riding in one of the cars that the woman struck lost their lives in the crash. The individuals who died were 35, 26 and 20 years old. The woman who reportedly caused their deaths now faces charges of murder (three counts) as well as assault in the first degree (one count) and wanton endangerment (one count).

The loved ones of the individuals who died in the car wreck may choose to file wrongful death claims against the woman who was arrested, seeking damages. If the woman is convicted on her charges, proof of the conviction may be presented in a related civil court proceeding in an effort to establish liability. If liability is established in court, claims for damages will be adjudicated. Monetary damages in a claim that is fought successfully may be helpful for addressing burial costs and other expenses associated with these kinds of motor vehicle accidents in Kentucky.
